9 Days of Prayer

Novena to Our Lady
Undoer of Knots

Over nine days, place in Mary's hands the knots that bring distress, fear, sorrow, or uncertainty. This version keeps the spiritual meaning of the traditional novena, in present-day language faithful to the devotion to Our Lady Undoer of Knots.

The 9 Days of the Novena

1Trust in Mary's Help

Meditation: On the first day, we draw near to Mary acknowledging that we need help. We place before her the knot that troubles us most and renew our trust that her motherly mercy can bring comfort, peace, and the certainty that we are not alone.

Prayer of the day: Dear holy Mother, Our Lady Undoer of Knots, I come to seek your help and to place in your hands the knot that troubles my life today. Now present your intention in silence. Look upon me with a mother's tenderness and, according to God's will, begin to undo what I cannot resolve on my own. Let your comfort reach my heart, restore my peace, and help me trust that I no longer walk alone. Our Lady Undoer of Knots, pray for me. Amen.

2Freedom from Distress

Meditation: The second day invites us to entrust to Mary not only the problem, but also what it has left behind: sadness, discouragement, and suffering. The traditional prayer asks that Mary's love reach the root of this knot and lead us to a concrete response of charity.

Prayer of the day: Beloved Mother, Our Lady Undoer of Knots, I come to you with my distress and place in your hands this knot that has caused so much suffering in me and in those around me. Now present your intention. With love and mercy, undo the root of this problem, and intercede with Jesus so that we may be freed from the evil it has caused. As a sign of gratitude, help me also to turn this day into concrete acts of love and kindness toward my neighbor. Our Lady Undoer of Knots, pray for me. Amen.

3Forgiveness and Guidance

Meditation: Some knots grow tighter because of resentment, guilt, and old wounds we still carry. On this day we ask for the grace to forgive those who hurt us, to recognize our own part in these conflicts, and to find again the path that draws us closer to God.

Prayer of the day: Mother of Fair Love, turn your merciful gaze upon me and receive in your hands this knot of my life. Now present your intention. Heal the resentment and bitterness it has left in my heart. Teach me to forgive those who hurt me, and to ask forgiveness for the times I too added to this pain. Do not let me stray onto paths that lead me away from Jesus. Guide me, lead me, and help me follow God's loving plan for my life. Our Lady Undoer of Knots, pray for me. Amen.

4Healing of Body and Soul

Meditation: Some knots steal our peace, weaken our strength, and paralyze our lives. Today's prayer entrusts to Mary our whole being: our fears, weaknesses, vices, passions, and the attitudes that keep us from loving and serving with joy.

Prayer of the day: Dear and merciful Mother, I come to beg that you untie this knot that has taken away the peace of my heart and worn down my strength. Now present your intention. I ask you to obtain for me healing of body and soul. I place before you my fears, my weaknesses, my vices, my passions, my temperament, and all the selfishness that keeps me from noticing my neighbor's pain. Untie this knot and unite my heart to yours, so that I may choose what is good, be strengthened in my weaknesses, and learn to know, love, and follow Jesus. Our Lady Undoer of Knots, pray for me. Amen.

5Freedom from Evil and Consecration

Meditation: On the fifth day, the novena calls us to recognize everything that keeps us from living as true children of God. We entrust to Mary the ties that feed evil in our lives, asking for her protection and renewing our decision to belong to Jesus.

Prayer of the day: Our Lady Undoer of Knots, my Mother, to you was entrusted the mission of helping the children who turn to your love. Take in your hands this knot that has so often kept me from living as a true child of God. Now present your intention. I renounce everything that, directly or indirectly, draws me away from the Lord and feeds this suffering. Shelter me under your mantle and welcome me close to the Heart of your Son. From this day on, I wish to renew my surrender to you and to Jesus, my only Savior. Our Lady Undoer of Knots, pray for me. Amen.

6Protection and Companionship

Meditation: Mary carried in her arms the One who sustains all things. This day's prayer asks her to take up the ribbon of our life, to remain at our side, and to obtain for us God's protection in our moments of distress.

Prayer of the day: Most Holy Virgin, my Mother, I draw near to place in your hands this knot of my life. Now present your intention. No one knows the suffering it causes me as you do. Take up the ribbon of my life and do not let me remain alone in my distress. Stay with me today and on every day God grants me. Obtain for me the protection of the holy angels, and let no part of my life remain far from God's grace. Our Lady Undoer of Knots, pray for me. Amen.

7Hope Amid Tears

Meditation: We do not always recognize every knot within us. Some hide behind sadness, a fading joy, a distance from prayer, and a struggle to do good. On this day we ask Mary for rest for our soul and for renewed hope.

Prayer of the day: Immaculate Virgin Mother, hope of the afflicted and dispenser of God's graces, I come to ask that you untie this knot, and also those I still cannot recognize in my life. Now present your intention. Do not let sadness draw me away from praise, from joy, from the desire to do good, and from God's presence. My soul needs rest: welcome me as a Mother and dry my tears. I believe that in your hands no knot is greater than God's mercy. Thank you for coming to my aid with such great love. Our Lady Undoer of Knots, pray for me. Amen.

8Mary Leads Us to Jesus

Meditation: Today's prayer recalls that whoever welcomes Mary discovers they are not an orphan. We ask her to visit the inner house of our soul, to carry our knots to Jesus, and to let grace transform what feels bitter today into a source of new life.

Prayer of the day: Most Holy Virgin Mother, Our Lady Undoer of Knots, have mercy on me and untie this knot of my life. Now present your intention. Today I come before you as a child who recognizes that he has a Mother. I do not ask only that you untie my knots: enter also into the house of my soul. Intercede with Jesus so that what feels bitter today may be transformed by his grace into new life. As you untie this knot, draw me closer to Jesus and obtain for me the presence of the Holy Spirit, the source of a love that never ends. Our Lady Undoer of Knots, pray for me. Amen.

9Gratitude and Surrender

Meditation: The final day is marked by gratitude. We recall the mercy received, the tears that were welcomed, and the hope renewed. We ask that Mary remain with us and that our heart stay united to hers on the way back to God.

Prayer of the day: Hail, full of grace, Mother chosen by God, mercifully receive this knot that I still place in your hands. Now present your intention. Do not let it keep me from fully experiencing God's love and recognizing his wonders. I thank you for welcoming my tears and my cries for help, restoring hope to my heart. I bless God the Father for giving us a Mother who never abandons those who ask for her help. Enter my life and remain with me. Lead me to the true Light, who is Jesus, and unite my heart to yours so that I may never stray from God. Our Lady Undoer of Knots, pray for me. Amen.

Final Prayer of the Novena

Dear Mother, you who have the power to untie the knots in my life, here I stand before you. What a grace it is to reach your heart, where I find mercy, welcome, and hope.

When I contemplate you, my heart is calmed and hope is reborn. I realize I am not alone. Undo, Mother, the fears, the anguish, and the despair I still carry in my chest. Teach me to walk through life trusting in your motherly hands and in the love of God.

Bring peace to my heart and teach me not to hold on to what I need to let go of. Receive the knots I wish to place in your hands, and untie them according to the will of the Lord, so that I may live with greater freedom, peace, and gratitude, giving glory to God. Today and always, I entrust my life to you. Our Lady Undoer of Knots, pray for me. Amen.
